Wool Scarves: Fashion And Functionality

Once fall sets in, so does the cooler weather. Soon we feel that the time has come to get the coats, hats and gloves from the storage; it’s time to bundle up! As winter begins, we are grateful to be as warm as we can. We look at animals and see their coats thicken with the coming snow and imitate them with our own extra layers of clothing.

Animals are the perfect example to us of how to keep warm when it’s freezing outside. As a matter of fact, we can use exactly what animals to do keep us warm! As they summer progresses into fall and then fall to winter, sheep develop an increasingly thicker coat of wool to protect them from the elements. When this wool is shorn in the spring, it can be used to make clothing that helps us humans keep warm in the cold.

Wool is used in all types of clothing from long underwear to sweaters and slacks to suits and right up to outerwear such as coats, gloves and hats. Different types of wool are used for different purposes, the more rough wool being used on outerwear and the softest wool used for underwear.

When you bundle up to go out on a blustery winter’s day you want to keep as much of yourself from being exposed to the cold as possible. A scarf is essential to helping you feel completely warm. Wool scarves are excellent at keeping in the warmth not only on your neck, but your head and body as well.

There are a wide variety of different types of wool scarves. Some are very functional and would only be worn with a coat out of doors. These are usually fairly thick and are expressly for the purpose of warming you in the cold. This isn’t the only type of wool scarf, though.

Some wool scarves play much more of a fashionable role than functional. These scarves are not put on with your coat, but rather with your outfit in the morning. They stay around the neck all day long and have a color and pattern to complement your outfit. These are usually lighter weight and of a very soft wool.

Cashmere scarves are definitely the softest type of wool scarf you can buy. This kind of wool is extremely soft and smooth and has a lovely texture and way of hanging. It looks very well, but it is also very warm.

Wool is one of the top materials for keeping in warmth, making it the perfect textile for scarves. Whether you are wearing a thick winter scarf or a more stylish one as a part of your outfit you are sure to feel warm and cozy with a wool scarf around your neck.
